So this is what I like to do in my spare time... dress up like an 18th century Spanish soilder and fire cannons!! That is me (in the picture below) lighting the cannon at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. There are a few dozen volunteers who participate in historic weapons demonstrations every weekend at the Fort. It is such a blast!!
On this particular Saturday, we had enough females to have an all-female cannon crew - the first in the history of the fort! (L to R) Jill, Me, Melinda and Erin

Wow, impressive. That looks like fun! If I lived in that area, I'd be right in there with ya. I might visit you some time. We love that city. There's a restaurant that was featured on Food Network's Top 5 a couple of years back. The restaurant was applauded for the blue plate special that included some kind of hand-dipped shrimp. I remember that it opens at 12 and that people line up to get in on a daily basis. Do you know the restaurant I'm referring to?
Don't worry. I won't be visiting any time soon. Blizzard, we're all snuggled in for a couple of days. :)
Anon,
I absolutely love doing the cannon thing. It is so much fun, of course maybe it's just the costume.
Not sure about the restaurant... I'd have to ask my tourism-employeed neighbors. There's a couple of really good ones. I have been to the A1A Restaurant and Brewery and I can tell you they have the best shrimp w/ bacon and grits I've ever eaten. We southerners have grits with everything.
See, now would be the perfect time to visit... we're in the 70s today!
Stay warm!
Anon, I wanted to tell you that I can totally sympathize... we lived in Idaho for 12 years. I hate snow.
Really? Idaho, how did you end up down in the Sunshine State?
The restaurant I'm talking about begins with O'. I can't remember the last part of it.
BTW, my newest post is in honor of beloved snow. Even though you don't like snow, I won't hold that against you. We can still be friends, can't we? :)
